Ministry to Tuskegee University FAMily
Father Garfield serves as Episcopal Chaplain to Tuskegee University. The central focus of ministry to the faculty, staff, and students of the University is their involvement in the worship life of the Parish. The students, staff, and faculty serve monthly, on University Sundays as Lectors, Oblation Bearers and Choir members.
Traditionally, an annual Tuskegee University Day Celebration is held, featuring the University Golden Voices Choir. Dinner is served for our student guests following this service.
Additional support and activities for our University students include: spaghetti dinners, workshops, study sessions with refreshments in the new education wing that are monitored by Vestry members and other Communicants, and bushel baskets of fruit to each residence hall during the Fall study days prior to the Christmas break.
The Annual University MusicFest is held each spring, showcasing TU students' talents.
The St. Andrew's Lions Basketball Team, sponsored by the Parish, is a member of the Tuskegee Housing Authority's Adult Basketball League. The concept for the team was initiated by University students who attend St. Andrew's on a regular basis.
The Larry M. Ludwick Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 in memory of Dr. Larry Martin Ludwick, a long time faithful parishioner and Professor of Chemistry at Tuskegee University. Managed by the Vestry, the first scholarship will be awarded in 2000 and is intended for science majors at Tuskegee University.
